Lorenzo Chiari

Lorenzo Chiari is a Professor of Aging and Rehabilitation Engineering at the University of Bologna. He is an expert in the field of Digital Health, particularly in the evaluation of movement, balance, and fall risk with wearable sensors, the discovery of digital biomarkers, telerehabilitation, and healthy and active aging. He is a member of the university research advisory board on Horizon Europe’s Cluster 1, Mission Cancer and Innovative Health Initiative. He was the PI of 3 European projects (SENSACTION-AAL, FARSEEING, CuPiD) on innovative technologies for Aging and Wellbeing and Personal Health Systems and the co-chair of the Italy-United States bilateral working group on “Innovative Technologies for Healthy Aging”. Since December 2022 he has been President of the Board of Directors of the “DARE – Digital Lifelong Prevention” Foundation and PI of the research project of the same name. DARE (2022-2026) is funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and has the ambitious objective of establishing Italy as a leading country in digital prevention.Prof. Dr. Aartsma-Rus’s current research focuses on improving exon skipping for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other diseases, optimizing model systems for muscular dystrophies, elucidating transcript processing of the dystrophin transcript, identifying biomarkers for muscular dystrophies and studying the effect of dystrophin in the brain.In 2011 she received the Duchenne Award from the Duchenne Parent Project for her dedication to the Duchenne field. In 2020 she received the EURORDIS Black Pearl Science award for her efforts in patient education in the rare disease field.
