Uppsala University was founded in 1477. Today it is a strong, comprehensive research university ranked among the best in the world, with 50,000 students and close to 5,000 researchers. The pharmacometrics research group at the Dept of Pharmacy was formed in 1994 with continuously active research in both methodology and application related to both drug development and drug usage. Strategies for nonlinear-mixed effects model building and usage in relation to clinical drug development has been a main interest area and methodologies developed have been made generally available through open source software. Application areas have shifted over the years and present focus is primarily divided between neurological (rare) disorders and (tropical) infectious diseases. The research group has 36 members with backgrounds in pharmacy, engineering, statistics, mathematics and computational sciences.
